Here's what has been happenning in our school recently!

Scarecrow Hunt

Did you spot these new pupils outside our school over half term?

Hopefully many of you enjoyed the Silchester Scarecrow Hunt this half term. Thank you to Mrs Nickerson, Miss Hagen and some of our year 6 pupils for making these friendly characters!

Climate Walk

On the last day before half term, years 1-6 took part in a climate change awareness march around the pavilion field. Children waved banners and shook buckets to raise money for The World Wildlife Fund.  They sang ‘Earth, We’re in it together’ in front of the pavilion, before making a final circuit of the field. It was very rainy and many banners were rather soggy looking by the end, but the children’s enthusiasm wasn’t dampened and they were keen to get their message across!

Tadley Arts Festival

Eleven pupils were chosen to attend a workshop at Tadley Arts Festival just before half term. We received wonderful feedback from the organisers of the event. They commented that our pupils were delightful and were impressed with how they engaged and participated in everything!

We are proud to have achieved our Green Trailblazing Award from Hampshire County Council for the fifth year running! This really shows our commitment to outdoor learning.

School Choir

The school choir have had a very busy start to the year. Their first performance was at the Basingstoke Variety Show at the Anvil, alongside 300 other local performers, in aid of the Mayor’s Charity Appeal. Just before October half term they took part in a workshop in Tadley Arts Festival and were again praised on their excellent behaviour. That same week they also performed alongside an adult choir at the finale concert of the festival. For our year 3 members, this was their first public performance!

Baby News

Congratulations to Miss Ashworth and her partner on the birth of baby number 2! Baby Dylan Christopher was born on 9th October weighing just 5lb 4oz. We can’t wait to meet him!

Marwell Residential

Year 6 had an amazing week at Marwell Outdoor Activity Centre at the beginning of October - every pupil said they got to try something new for the very first time. Highlights included the giant swing, zip wires and quad bikes. Staff at the centre commented on the exceptional behaviour of our year 6 pupils.

Harvest Festival

Thank you to everyone who supported our Harvest Festival and donated foods for The Food Bank. We were able to donate 182.04 kgs of food in total, which is equal to 433 meals!

Augusta's Memorial Garden

Augusta's Memorial Garden is now finished and looks fantastic! Special thanks to Richard Edwards who made the wonderful outdoor xylophone, to Nick Speakman who carved the beautiful story telling chair and toadstools, and to everyone who kindly gave donations to make it all possible.

Area Athletics 2019

Silchester performed brilliantly at this year's Area Athletics! We came 2nd overall! Well done to everyone that took part.

Understanding Christianity Freeze

Our 'Understanding Christianity' freeze looks great and will support the teaching of R.E. accross the school. Thank you to the PTA for funding this project.

We have recently been making mosaics for our school values. They are now all finished and they look fab! They will soon be displayed around our school, so look out for them!

Litter picking equipment

We are very fortunate to have had a class set of litter picking equipment donated recently.  Our aim is for each week to have a group of children help keep Silchester clean. Hopefully local residents have notcied the difference since we started!

Eco Bricks

Our school councillors have been working hard to show people how to make eco bricks correctly.

  • Cut plastic into stamp sized pieces
  • Finished bottle should weigh 1/3 of original capacity

Eco Schools

We are becoming an eco school. Our eco committee have carried out an audit of where we are currently and we will soon be deciding actions for the furture.
