Netball news

Congratulations to our netball team who have got through to the recent Basingstoke and Deane finals!

School Facelift

Huge thanks go to Mr Inkley who recently transformed the area outside year 5 and 6 classrooms. We’re sure you’ll agree that it looks great and it should make it much easier for us to maintain.

Explore Learning Mathematician's Award

Four pupils from year 6 recently took part in the Explore Learning Mathematician’s Award. They did amazingly well—in fact Silchester was the top performing school in the Basingstoke area! You did us proud year 6!

Basingstoke and Deane Annual Sports Awards 2020

Silchester Primary School has been nominated as one of the fifth finalists for the Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards! This is a fantastic achievement within the local sporting community, and we are extremely proud of our efforts! Special thanks must go to Mrs McKenzie for her enthusiasm and dedication to sport which has made this possible.

Christmas time at Silchester

Christmas is always a busy time of year at Silchester and this year was no exception, beginning with the nativity told beautifully by our youngest chidlren. Over 80 adults and children joined us to share the light at our Christingle service where we raised over £50 for The Children’s Society. We had lots of lovely feedback from parents who came to the carol service and on the last day of term we welcomed back many familiar faces of ex-pupils who came along for a sing-song at our Songs Around the Tree!

Whole School Tree Planting

This week, the whole school took part in tree planting on Benyon Estate. In total we planted 350 trees! Well done Silchester pupils - we have helped to improve the air quality surrounding our school!

Year 5 trip to Ufton Court

Year 5 have just returned back from a fantastic three day residential at Ufton Court. Yet again, Silchester pupils were praised on their wonderful behaviour!

Whilst away, all pupils achieved the John Muir award, an environmental award scheme focused on wild places.

PTA Grounds Day

Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help transform our 'Quiet Area' - it looks super!

Scarecrow Hunt

Did you spot these new pupils outside our school over half term?

Hopefully many of you enjoyed the Silchester Scarecrow Hunt this half term. Thank you to Mrs Nickerson, Miss Hagen and some of our year 6 pupils for making these friendly characters!

Climate Walk

On the last day before half term, years 1-6 took part in a climate change awareness march around the pavilion field. Children waved banners and shook buckets to raise money for The World Wildlife Fund.  They sang ‘Earth, We’re in it together’ in front of the pavilion, before making a final circuit of the field. It was very rainy and many banners were rather soggy looking by the end, but the children’s enthusiasm wasn’t dampened and they were keen to get their message across!

Tadley Arts Festival

Eleven pupils were chosen to attend a workshop at Tadley Arts Festival just before half term. We received wonderful feedback from the organisers of the event. They commented that our pupils were delightful and were impressed with how they engaged and participated in everything!

We are proud to have achieved our Green Trailblazing Award from Hampshire County Council for the fifth year running! This really shows our commitment to outdoor learning.

School Choir

The school choir have had a very busy start to the year. Their first performance was at the Basingstoke Variety Show at the Anvil, alongside 300 other local performers, in aid of the Mayor’s Charity Appeal. Just before October half term they took part in a workshop in Tadley Arts Festival and were again praised on their excellent behaviour. That same week they also performed alongside an adult choir at the finale concert of the festival. For our year 3 members, this was their first public performance!

Augusta's Memorial Garden

Augusta's Memorial Garden is now finished and looks fantastic! Special thanks to Richard Edwards who made the wonderful outdoor xylophone, to Nick Speakman who carved the beautiful story telling chair and toadstools, and to everyone who kindly gave donations to make it all possible.
