Our Library
Books take children to new places by helping them do well in school and in life. The stories they read take them on journeys in their imaginations where they can discover new worlds and meet new people whilst encountering language and ideas that enrich their lives. Reading helps children develop critical thinking skills and empathy for others and enhances their wellbeing and mental health.
When you read, your brain is like a sponge, soaking up new words, ideas, and information. It helps you learn new things, understand complex concepts, and think more critically. So, every time you open a book, you're not just entertaining yourself—you're giving your brain a workout!
At Silchester, we have a large central library from which children are able to check out books to take home. Each class also has their own class library. We encourage reading for learning, information and purly for pleasure. Our Head Librarian, Lizzie West, helps children to chose and borrow books that they'll love. We also have several pupil librarians who help to keep it all in order! In the words of Dr Seuss:
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
