Pupil Voice
Pupil Voice at Silchester Church of England Primary School
At Silchester Church of England Primary School we believe in empowering our pupils to be confidently themselves, show kindness to all, and make a positive difference. Our school’s values of Compassion, Courage and Respect is woven throughout our approach to pupil engagement and leadership.
School Council
Our School Council is a group of elected pupil representatives who meet regularly to discuss ideas and concerns raised by their classmates. They work collaboratively to identify ways to improve the school experience for all pupils, whether it's enhancing the playground equipment, organising charity fundraisers, or suggesting menu options for the school kitchen. The School Council gives our pupils a meaningful voice in the decision-making process, helping them develop essential leadership skills and a sense of ownership over their school community.
Eco Council
Caring for the environment is a core part of our school's values, and our Eco Council is at the forefront of this effort. This dedicated group of pupils works to raise awareness about sustainability, implement eco-friendly practises within the school, and inspire their peers to adopt more environmentally conscious habits. From organising litter-picking events to leading school-wide recycling initiatives, the Eco Council empowers our pupils to make a tangible difference in protecting the planet.
Compassionate Researchers
Our Compassionate Researchers are a team of curious, empathetic pupils who investigate issues that matter to them and their community. Whether it's exploring ways to support local charities, researching the experiences of children with special educational needs, or delving into the history of their school, these young researchers demonstrate the power of combining intellectual curiosity with a compassionate spirit. Their findings are shared with the wider school community, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and make a positive impact.
At Silchester C of E Primary, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of confident, kind, and socially conscious leaders. By providing meaningful opportunities for pupil voice and leadership, we are helping our pupils develop the skills and values they need to become active, engaged members of their community and the world beyond.
Junior Road Safety Officers
A ‘JRSO’ is a Junior Road Safety Officer. Their role is to tell everyone in Silchester School how to stay safe on and near, the road. Following training, our JRSO’s spread road safety messages to the school community by giving talks, running competitions, putting up posters and any other fun ideas that we come up with over the year. Their recent initiative of distributing fluorescent slapbands to all children support the ‘Be Safe, Be Seen’ campaign.
