Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) at Silchester
DEFINITION OF SEND
A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. By learning difficulty, it is meant that the child or young person has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or they have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools. For more detailed definition see DofE Code of Practice 2015, xiv, xv P/16 .

Flowchart
This flowchart shows the process that we undertake at Silchester and across the collaboration from the point of raising a cause for concern. Once a cause for concern form has been completed, the flowchart will be used to identify the appropriate pathway based on the pupil’s need. Once a pathway(s) have been followed, a pupil may need to be added to SEN register. Thereafter the Plan, Do Review process will be implemented and reassessed.
