At Silchester we use a scheme called Read Write Inc to teach phonics.  Children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 have daily phonics sessions where they learn the 44 common sounds and how to sound-blend words, alongside letter formation and spelling. The children are taught in a fun, yet repeptative, way to learn and consolidate the phonetical knowledge they need to learn to read and write.  Children practice their sounds, blending to read and segmenting to write. We also use elements of ‘Cued Articulation' to help children understand how the sound is formed orally.

We hold an annual phonics workshop for parents and EYFS parents are welcomed in to observe some phonics sessions to see how we do it!
